Hair Loss Conditions

Loose anagen syndrome

A condition where growing hairs are poorly anchored and can be pulled out easily.

Loose anagen syndrome usually affects children, especially those with fine or fair hair, although it can occur in adults. Hairs are in the anagen growth phase but are loosely attached because of abnormal anchoring in the follicle. Parents may notice that the hair does not grow long, is easily pulled out or looks sparse. Diagnosis can involve a hair pull test and microscopic examination of the pulled hairs. It is usually non-scarring and may improve with age.
