Minoxidil non-responder

A person who does not get meaningful improvement from minoxidil despite correct, consistent use.

A minoxidil non-responder is someone who sees little or no benefit after using minoxidil properly for an adequate period, usually at least six months and often longer. Poor response can be due to inconsistent use, unrealistic expectations, advanced miniaturisation, the wrong diagnosis, irritation limiting use or differences in scalp enzyme activity needed to activate minoxidil. Before calling treatment a failure, clinicians usually check adherence, formulation, diagnosis and whether a combination approach is more appropriate.
