Low vitamin D may be relevant in some hair loss presentations, but it is not a stand-alone diagnosis.
Vitamin D deficiency is commonly searched by people with shedding or thinning. Low vitamin D has been reported in several hair disorders, but association does not automatically mean causation. Replacement is most sensible when a true deficiency is confirmed, particularly if there are broader health reasons to correct it. Vitamin D tablets should not be presented as a guaranteed hair regrowth treatment; ongoing shedding still needs assessment for pattern hair loss, telogen effluvium, autoimmune disease, thyroid disease and nutritional issues.
