Hair loss triggered or worsened by anabolic-androgenic steroids in genetically susceptible people.
Anabolic-androgenic steroids and some testosterone-boosting regimens can increase androgen exposure. In people genetically prone to androgenetic alopecia, this can accelerate miniaturisation and make temple or crown thinning appear earlier or progress faster. The risk depends on the compound, dose, duration and individual susceptibility. Stopping the trigger does not always fully reverse the loss if follicles have already miniaturised, which is why a medication and supplement history matters during a hair loss consultation.
