Increased shedding after giving birth, usually due to a temporary shift in the hair cycle.
Postpartum hair loss is usually a form of telogen effluvium. During pregnancy, hormonal changes can keep more follicles in the growth phase; after delivery, many of those hairs enter the resting phase and shed together. Shedding commonly appears a few months after birth and can feel dramatic, especially around the temples or hairline. It is usually temporary, but persistent thinning should prompt assessment for iron deficiency, thyroid disease, female pattern hair loss or other causes.
