Ketoconazole shampoo

An antifungal shampoo used for dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis, sometimes as an adjunct in pattern hair loss.

Ketoconazole shampoo is primarily an antifungal and anti-inflammatory treatment for dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis. It is sometimes discussed in androgenetic alopecia because scalp inflammation, Malassezia and sebum-related irritation may worsen the scalp environment, and small studies have suggested possible adjunctive benefit. However, it should not be sold as a proven stand-alone hair regrowth treatment. Its most defensible role is treating coexisting dandruff, itch or seborrhoeic dermatitis and supporting a healthier scalp while evidence-based hair-loss treatments address the underlying miniaturisation.
